Predesigned cleanroom 6m x 3m for Lancaster & Morecambe College’s Engineering Department
Connect 2 Cleanrooms was appointed by Lancaster & Morecambe College, to provide a predesigned cleanroom to be used in its Engineering Department, to allow students the opportunity to gain experience of working within a cleanroom environment.

The cleanroom was chosen from Connect 2 Cleanrooms’ predesigned range, including a 1m x 3m integrated change area and a 5m x 3m internal working space.

The client
Lancaster & Morecambe College is a provider of technical, professional and creative education to over 3,000 students. As a key apprenticeship provider in the local area, the college has links to over 700 employers, delivering apprenticeships across 30 occupational areas.
Offering more than 10 courses across electronics and engineering, the College were looking for a cleanroom to allow students to be able to carry out sensitive processes that require a controlled environment. Typically, students that graduate from the college after studying in this field will find themselves working in a cleanroom, so it’s very important that they have the experience of wearing the correct clothing, carrying out the correct processes and following cleanroom protocol before they go into their chosen career.
The project
As the college is government funded, the most important factors when choosing a supplier was to ensure the cleanroom was functional, suited the college’s requirements and was budget friendly. C2C’s predesigned range of cleanrooms made the process simple for the College team.
Installation
Initially, the College were going to construct the cleanroom themselves, as the predesigned range comes with the option to self-install. In the end, the C2C team constructed the cleanroom due to time-constraints at the College, having other contractors on site prepping the same area for the installation of other tools and workspaces, so it was important everyone worked alongside each other, in the same area. The C2C installation engineers constructed the cleanroom in 48 hours.
The cleanroom
Lancaster and Morecambe College required a cleanroom that is freestanding and didn’t require any structural work to the space it was due to go in. The 6m x 3m steel cleanroom is an ideal solution for these requirements, particularly as it also includes a change area so students can practice correct gowning procedures.
The college has benefitted from this cleanroom by elevating the standard of services offered to students, as well as uplifting the education the students receive.
